20:365 Laundry

20:365 Laundry
My mother had a washing machine just like this in the early 60's. The only time I remember my mother using ugly words was when she was trying to do laundry with a wringer washer. This is theme #167 Laundry.

I have never seen a wringer washer in person but they are so beautiful, so full of character. Great picture, Clara!

I can imagine the choice words your mom used, aren't you glad we don't have those? Think how far we have come....

Nice image, they look like torture machines in a way

A similar Simpson, once tried to eat me starting at the fingers and only stopped at the elbow cause mum turned it off, Phew. Didn't need reminding thanks.

Oh, those were the days! Worst thing - besides grabbing little fingers - was its propensity for popping off buttons. Then the item would become entangled, wrapping around the roller. The thing above the rollers is a quick-release bar. Often needed!

'Fraid to confess that I have used a few choice words when using one of these things too.

Yet, these monsters were a 'god-send' to the country woman. If she didn't have one of these, she boiled her clothes in the big black wash pot out in the middle of the yard and then did the laundry over the rub-board - and usually with lye soap. That job was a necessity come hell or high water - cold of the winter or heat of the summer. And we think we have things rough!

I know wherefore I speak. We girls (7 of us) all helped Mama do the laundry the hard way.

Great shot, and I love your presentation.

I just bought a 21st-century washer & dryer yesterday. Looks a lot different than this, thank goodness! :-O

Oh, how lucky we are!

I'm sure those things were better than a washboard and a wooden tub. Wouldn't trade my new-fangled washing machine for one, though! Nice picture!

Nice photo of the wringer washer. I remember my grandmother using one if these and the flattened sheets being run through the wringer.
