31:365 Letters
It's the end of the first month! 1 down and 11 to go. When I think of letters, I think of the abc's that you put across the chalkboard in school. This is theme # 171 Letters.

29:365 Yellow

28:365 Yellow
We are quickly approaching the end of the first month of our 365 challenge. I looked back over photos that I have taken this month and I found this image of a rose that I took in Bellingrath Gardens in Alabama. The weather was pleasant that day, but it has turned very cold now. This is theme #365 Yellow.

28:365 Inspiration

28:365 Inspiration
I met this precious gentleman recently while I was visiting a relative in an extended care facility. He caught my attention right away because of the twinkle in his eyes and the spring in his step. He is 94 years old and he was a baker all of his life. He carries around photos of some of his wedding cakes and he showed them to us. He now uses his creativity to make toys for children out of cardboard boxes, cups, string, newspapers, etc. I took a picture of him with some of his toys and materials. That is a train engine in the foreground, and box cars on the shelf behind him. I only hope that when I reach that age, my creative juices will still be flowing, and I use those abilities to help other people. This is theme #159 Inspiration.

You can find textures on flickr that mimic viewfinders complete with sensor dust. It is called ttv or through the viewfinder. Thanks to zonbizi for the texture.

As you can tell, I love to photograph Coca-Cola memorabilia. This was hard for me because I wanted to photograph the whole door, and I tried to limit myself to details. This is theme #9 Advertisement.

25:365 Recessionary Economics

25:365 Recessionary Economics
This is one of the best "green" cookbooks that I have ever seen. It has lots of recipies that use simple, unprocessed food. It was published by Doris Janzen Longacre in 1975 and republished in 2000. I grew up on a farm in Alabama and my parents were visionaries way beyond their time when it came to eating locally. They advocated "local eating" and "100-mile diets" long before it became popular to do. We just about didn't eat it if we didn't raise it.

21:365 Folk Tale

21:365 Folk Tale
Eatonton, GA is the home of the Uncle Remus Museum. Eatonton was the birthplace of Joel Chandler Harris who wrote the Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox, and Brer Bear stories for the New York Times in the late 1800’s. Brer Rabbit stories are trickster animal folk tales that had their origins in Africa. They are very similar to the Anansi the spider tales and the Hyena stories that children love to read. This statue was erected in 1955, and it is the most photographed statue in Georgia. This is my second chosed theme- Folk Tale

My mother had a washing machine just like this in the early 60's. The only time I remember my mother using ugly words was when she was trying to do laundry with a wringer washer. This is theme #167 Laundry.

19:365 Navigational Aids

19:365 Navigational Aids
Nuvi is trying her best to navigate us through downtown Atlanta. You can see the Olympic torch on the right. Since we are cruising along in light traffic in the HOV lane, her job is easy. That's good, because if we frustrate her, she can give us some serious attitude. (I think that my husband likes her . . .Shhhhh!) This is theme #196 Navigational Aids.

15:365 Who Put That There?

15:365 Who Put That There?
An old TV is not something that you would expect to find hiding in the grass, but we found one while we were cleaning a shed that belonged to Daddy. My Dad was "green" long before it was popular to be "green". He used everything until it was used-up. Then he saved it in case he might need the parts to work on something else. This is theme #360 Who Put That There?

14:365 Lost and Found

14:365 Lost and Found
We recently started cleaning out an old shed that belonged to Daddy. I wish that I could say that it was full of fabulous antiques, but it was mostly junk. This is my son's BMX bike from about 1988. I bought it at the Western Auto, a store that doesn't exist any more. Anyway, it was lost and is now found. This is theme #178 Lost and Found.

13:365 Spelling Errors

13:365 Spelling Errors
This is the Merchants National Bank Building in Mobile, Alabama. If you will look closely, the word building is spelled with a "v" and not a "u". I took this photo because of that, but I was plesantly surprised by the wonderful reflection that I caught in the windows.
The building was built in 1929 and it is a skyscraper that was once the tallest building in Mobile. This is theme #297 Spelling Errors.

This is the old Goodyear plant in Cartersville, Georgia. It was built in the early 1900’s by Edward Lee McClain to make cotton cloth for horse collars. Goodyear purchased the factory in 1928 and used it to manufacture conveyor belts. The plant closed in 2003. This is theme #158 Industrial.

7:365 Rain, Rain, Go Away

7:365 Rain, Rain, Go Away

Well, here we are at the end of the first week of our challenge, and I can truthfully say that I have been knocked out of my comfort zone. I tried to get a picture of rain all day yesterday, and I found out that rain is almost impossible to photograph. Water beads on the tree from the vantage point of my deck are also hard. Getting everything in focus without having a lot of clutter in the background is very difficult. The blue in the picture is a giant puddle in my back yard. I never thought that I would say this after 2 years of level 4 drought in Georgia, but I wish that it would stop raining! This is theme #249 Rain, Rain, Go Away!

5:365 Communication

5:365 Communication

In today’s world, we have all kinds of electronic gadgets and gismos that allow us to communicate with anyone we want . . . anytime we want. There was a time when the rural mail carrier was a very important connection with the rest of the world. He brought letters, dresses, seeds, and even animals to farm families. This is theme #60 Communication.

4:365 Controls

This is the dashboard of my Daddy's 1965 Chevrolet truck. This was the first new car that Daddy ever bought and the only truck that he ever owned. He drove this truck for more than 30 years. In fact, I learned how to drive sitting behind this very steering wheel. The truck is rusted now, and in true Southern tradition, it is permanently parked down in the pasture. This is theme #64 Controls.

Yes, he was abandoned. He was picked up- cold and hungry- by animal control on a rural Georgia road. The Atlanta Small Dog Rescue took him in and kept him until my daughter saw him and decided to adopt. I admit, I was apprehensive at first about her adopting a grown dog that had had trauma in his life. She has done a good job, however, dealing patiently with some big problems. He is such a sweet, scrappy little soul, and he has made himself a welcome part of our family. Happy ending here. This is theme #5 Abandoned.
