Chains bolt the door of an abandoned and deteriorating school in central Alabama. The school was closed about 7 years ago because the county consolidated all of their schools. This building is in a depressed area and the county cannot sell the building nor afford to keep it from deteriorating. It breaks my heart.

My rooms are now vacant. My corridors still.
No sounds of the children. My structure to fill.
No longer the sound of the teachers I hear.
Shaping the lives that to me were so dear.

Very striking image and sad to see it fall into such disrepair.

Beautiful image with a great reflection. It's too bad the story behind it is so sad.

You can almost count the thousands of hands that left the metal above the handles as worn as that, you can just imagine the kids barging through laughing and chattering without a care in the world, except their finals.

This really is a sad picture but, unfortunately, this is happening more and more. The poem adds that special touch.

Excellent photo, Clara. I love how you composed it to capture the reflection of the other school building in the window. Great texture. Sad mood....

This is a really intriguing photo. The reflection of the building--which doesn't look derelict or abandoned--seems like a memory in the wiindow of the door.

The angle of this shot and the color really set this photo off. Good job.

This wonderful shot really tells a sad story. A sign of the times...

The dreariness of those doors is very painful! The poem only underlines the depths how schools can or can't operate. Have a building that could be used, and still can't even use it or sell it. Isn't that a pity? A crying shame.

Good photo and swell shot for the theme.

You've framed this perfectly, another fine photo, your images all tell stories so well.

Wonderful photo but quite a sad story. Worse than that school situation is that some people have to walk away from their HOMES.
