74:365 Past Its Prime

74:365 Past Its Prime
This is one of two gas pumps that are still standing in front of an old gas station on Highway 9 in Alabama. According the the price on the pump, gas is 39.9 cents a gallon. This is theme #227 Past Its Prime.

Wow, it is a lovely old pump. I think I have a faint, very faint recollection of gas that expensive. Great shot.

Top find and a great shot of this oldtimer, I use that term as the pump must have "Oldtimers Disease" if it thinks Gas is THAT price.

39.9 cents. I think I was maybe 10 years old then. This is a great shot.

I'm amazed they haven't pulled the pumps though. Lucky for you they are still standing.

Wonderful shot for the theme! When I started driving, gas was .499...I could drive my mom's Pinto all week for about $2

Yep, it is past its prime alright! I like the fact you kept the surroundings au natural. The little mound of twigs that has blown in and other debris. Nice capture.

Ditto what 365photosin2009 said: I can remember when it was cheaper than that too.

Daddy's car filled up on the driver's side, and I generally sat in the rear seat, driver's side. The pump was hand powered with the big bulb at the top where the pumped gas swirled around in the bulb. That used to fascinate me. The price on the pump was five cents a gallon. Guess that dates me, huh?

What a great find! Charming, nostalgic and wonderful details. Great shot! To answer your question about the letters, I think they're used to direct truck drivers to their bays.

Beautiful, nostalgic shot. I remember my father's customers reeling in shock when gas hit 50 cents a gallon!

Wow, that one is a goner. Pure rust. Gas was $.25 when I started driving. And minimum wage was $1.60 so that still seemed like a lot. I guess it's all relative. Nice shot!

They certainly are a treasure from the past, the ole Petrol Pump. Very nicely captured. If only fuel was that cheap now hey !
