145:365 Forgotten

One of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War was the Battle of Allatoona Pass fought on October 5, 1864. Sherman had already captured Atlanta and the Confederate army was trying to close this major railway pass and cut off supplies to the Union army. A few days after the battle a strange box was shipped into the depot in Allatoona. It was left alone for two days and two nights until some women who worked at the depot opened the box to find the badly decomposed remains of a Confederate soldier. The women buried the soldier and the railroad later erected this monument to remember him. The burial site is said to be haunted. The disrepair of this monument suggests that this is a forgotten hero instead of unknown hero.
